Description

Spanish Lavender Kew Red blooms earlier than other lavender plants.

Kew Red Lavender Plants are sure be fun additions to your lavender landscape.

Also referred to as Rabbit Ears or Butterfly Lavender, the Lavandula stoechas 'Kew Red', is typical of a Spanish Lavender with its pineapple-like shaped blooms and pink bracts at the top. Where the English Lavenders and French Lavenders produce tall spiky blooms, the blooms on the Kew Red remain more compact with the plant itself.

Kew red is a show stopper paired with ornamental grasses or as a stand alone in your rock garden. The talent for this lavender plant lies in its beauty as it is not as fragrant as the English or French Hybrid Lavenders. While it does not attract as many butterflies and hummingbirds, it is a favorite with honeybees with its fuchsia colored blooms.

This lavender grows two foot tall with a two foot spread, blooming from mid-may till frost. As with other lavenders plant in well drained soil in full sun. Prune after blooming.  The Kew Red Lavender grows better in humid areas than other lavender varieties.
