Royal Red Butterfly Bushes

Buddleia Royal Red butterfly bush is a 1928 hybrid butterfly bush from Good and Reese Nursery in Ohio and is still one of the most desired of the hybrid butterfly bushes. The Royal Red Buddleia is a flowering shrub that is filled from summer to early fall with long panicles of beautifully fragrant, brilliant flowers. Though the name implies a red blossom, the bloom color will be more of a bright fuchsia/purple bloom shade.

Tip for Growing Butterfly Garden Bushes: Cut faded flowers off a Royal Red butterfly bush regularly to keep it blooming throughout the summer. Buddleia bushes are hardy in zones 5 to 9. If you live in a colder zone, the tops in your butterfly plants will likely die back over the winter. Even so, they will come back the next growing season bigger and better then before. Buddleia Royal Red Butterfly bushes prefer full sun. They require eight or more hours of sun a day to thrive.
 

Bloom time for this beautiful flowering shrub is late June through September, and growing from 5 to 6 foot tall and 3 to 5 foot wide with age.
