Native Buttonbush Shrubs -
Cephalanthus occidentalis, commonly called buttonbush shrubs, button-willow and honey-bells, is a North American native flowering shrub. Tolerant of wet soils, the button bush grows well in pond and low lying areas where the soil may stay damp or wet. Excellent choice for rain gardens and woodland gardens.
Button bush shrubs grow in full sun to part shade spaces maturing in the 5 to 12 foot height range with a spread of up to 8 feet wide. Fragrant spherical flower heads appear in early to mid summer hardening off into fruits that remain on the shrubs throughout winter.
Cephalanthus occidentalis is a favorite to attract bees and butterflies.
